Sankɔfa is not nostalgia. It is the disciplined return to memory so that what is recovered can guide the future. Film makes that return visible: voices can be preserved, buried histories can re-enter public memory, and the meaning of home can be tested rather than romanticized.
The Abibitumi Abibifahodie Film Festival will gather audiences around that work on October 16–18, 2026. Its hybrid structure joins online screenings with an in-person Gala and Awards gathering in Accra.
With film entries now closed, the journey changes. The 2026 theme, Kemet for the Kemetyu: At Home and Abroad, now moves from the filmmaker’s submission into the audience’s encounter. Watching becomes a form of retrieval, interpretation, and responsibility.
