Dr. Mawiyah Kambon
Psychologist and Traditional Healer
Dr. Mawiyah Kambon stands as a pillar of healing and empowerment in the Black community. As the executive director of ONIPA, she blends psychology with traditional healing, offering a unique sanctuary for those seeking spiritual and holistic wellness. Her work, extending over 40 years, has profoundly impacted individuals and families, guiding them towards discovering their inner strength and purpose.
Dr. Kambon’s influence is further magnified by her role as a community elder and traditional healer, Nana Efia Nsia Asantewaa. Her leadership in the National Association of Black Psychologists, particularly the 2000 convention in Ghana, marked a significant step in spiritual reclamation and global empowerment for African-centered psychologists. She led 500 Black psychologists and their families on a journey to heal themselves so they could heal our communities. Since 1998, through the Sankofa Journey, which she has led for over two decades alongside her son, Dr. Obadele Kwame Kambon, she offers a transformative experience, connecting participants to their African roots and fostering deep cultural and psychological healing. Over the last 40+ years she has helped hundreds of individuals, couples, and families find their passion, purpose, and power one step at a time.
