I’ve been following Mama Mawiyah, Nana Kwame, Baba Kamau Kambon, and the Kambon family for years. Being on this journey was better than anything I could ever have dreamed of. I felt like I was home with family. They know everybody, and everybody knows them so the whole trip was so personal and blacknificent. This changed my life. I came by myself but next time I’m bringing my whole family.

I’ve been on the Sankofa Journey 11 times. I feel like myself when in Ghana and on the Journey. When I come back to Baltimore, I feel the weight of what I left behind—but also the fire to keep pushing forward. My reset happens every year on the journey, every year it’s different, and every time, it changes me to make me a better man and a better African.

I’ve been to Ghana three times. My second time going to Ghana, I accidentally signed up for another tour using the same name as the Sankofa Journey. It was nice, but this year I finally came on the real Sankofa Journey. I should have come here with the Kambons the first time. This was undeniably the best life-changing experience I could have.
